The Black Women’s Law Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. (“BWLA”, “we” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members and other users (“you”) of its website and services. BWLA has created this privacy policy to explain its practices related to the gathering and disclosure of information from this website and our programs, products and services whether you interact with us online or in person. BWLA collects information that enables us to identify and contact you as well as to carry out certain business purposes described below and to provide services to our members. For example, we may collect personal information about you when you register for or use an account through our website, make purchases from us, access our networking or other programs, engage with us on social media, fill out a survey or otherwise use our website.

Information You Provide

The types of information we collect directly from you may include:

· Personal information about you, including personal identifiers, such as your name, physical address, email address, and phone number, and other information you provide, such as your birthday and gender.

· Professional and educational background information, including your employer, attorney bar number and professional specialization.

· Financial information, such as credit card information, needed to process your requests such as purchases and donations may be collected by our service providers. All payments and donations are processed through our service providers. At the National Summit photos and videos may be taken. By attending this event your image may be captured in these photos and videos. By attending the National Summit you are granting permission to be recorded via photos or video. The Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. may use the photos and videos captured at the National Summit for promotional and other reasonable purposes.

· Conduct our business and provide programs, products and services to our members

· Offer information or promotional materials to members about products and services that BWLA offers

· Facilitate purchases and donations through our website, including to process and fulfill orders and communicate with users about orders and their status

In addition to the uses identified above, BWLA uses member information, which may include information collected on the website, for the following purposes:

E-mails. BWLA sends e-mails to its members, former members, and others for various purposes, including but not limited to upcoming programming, member benefit information, and more. If you do not wish to receive e-mail communications from BWLA, please email administrator@bwla.org or use the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the e-mails you receive.

Programming. Where BWLA hosts or sponsors events or other programming, BWLA may use your information to identify attendees and potential attendees and to provide the programming to you.

E-Commerce. BWLA allows members and others to order products and services through our website. Information collected during this process is used to verify membership (if applicable) and to bill for the purchased products and services.

Legal requests and obligations. We may use your information to comply with our legal obligations. For example, if we receive a subpoena or other legal request, we may need to inspect the data we hold to determine how to respond.

User inquiries and support. We may use your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the use of our website or services.

BWLA takes reasonable security measures to protect against the loss or misuse of information under its control, including administrative and technical security measures. Although we will do our best to protect your information, transmission of information to and from BWLA is at your own risk.

You can also help keep your data secure. Members are responsible for choosing a secure password when creating your account to log into our website. You should keep this password confidential and choose a password that you do not use on any other website.

Managing Your Information

If you register on our website, we store the information that you provide in your user account. You can review, modify, or delete the personal information attached to your account, any time by logging into your account on our website.

Notice to Residents of California

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year. If you are a California resident and would like to make such a request, please submit your request in writing to us using the contact information provided below. Please note, however, we do not make your personal information available to any third party for their marketing purposes.

The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) does not apply to BWLA as a non-profit organization.

Notice to Residents of Nevada

If you are a Nevada resident, you have the right to opt out of the sale of certain personal information, including your name and mailing address, to third parties. BWLA does not sell your personal information.

Where We Store Your Information

BWLA’s website and services are intended for residents of the United States. Personal Information of Minors

No uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. BWLA has established accounts on social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and others. BWLA has established these accounts for the benefit of members and our users. These social media platforms are hosted by third parties and are governed by the privacy, terms and conditions, and other relevant policies of those third parties.

BWLA may change this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will attempt to notify you and/or obtain your consent, as required by law. BWLA encourages members and public users to periodically review this privacy policy.
